Dowina is a Slovak guitar maker with a strong passion for wood, craftsmanship and the art of guitar building. We are proud to become an official Dowina dealer and bring these beautifully crafted instruments to guitar players in Europe.
A Guitar Maker with a Unique Story
The story of Dowina began in 1979 in Devín, a historic area of Bratislava, Slovakia, with a violin workshop. The knowledge and experience gained from traditional violin making eventually became the foundation for Dowina's approach to guitar building.
Today, Dowina operates its guitar workshop in Bratislava, where its all-solid Vintage, Time Travel and Master series, as well as custom guitars, are made. The company continues to combine traditional craftsmanship with research, development and modern guitar-building techniques.
A Passion for Wood
One of the things that immediately stood out to us about Dowina is the attention given to the selection of tonewoods.
According to Dowina, every piece of wood used for its solid-body guitars is carefully selected based on its acoustic and physical properties, with only around 5% of the material tested making it through the final selection process. The tops are then hand-voiced and the braces are tap-tuned to bring out the individual character of each instrument.
This attention to detail is a big part of what makes Dowina interesting to us at Woodpecker Instruments.
From Vintage-Inspired to Modern
Dowina offers a broad range of guitars, from accessible instruments to high-end all-solid models.
The current range includes the Delights, NU Vintage, Vintage, Master, Time Travel and Antique series, each with its own approach to materials, construction and design.
The Master Series, for example, includes models made with rare tonewoods such as Cocobolo, Ebony and flamed Maple. The Time Travel series combines traditional inspiration with contemporary design, while Dowina's Aura concept introduces a distinctive body-neck construction designed to improve upper-fret access.
Dowina also offers custom guitars, giving players the opportunity to create an instrument around their own preferences for woods, finishes and details.
